A Kentucky resident for nearly all his life, Mr. Beard was born at the old family home place at Boiling Springs on Sinking Creek in Webster Kentucky in 1936. He remained there until age 19 in 1955 when he moved to Louisville and found employment with the then named Louisville Municipal Housing Commission. David remained a dedicated employee until his retirement in January 1999 from the now named Louisville Metro Housing Authority. He served most of his 44 year maintenance career at the Clarksdale Community in downtown Louisville, filling in at various other communities as needed.
Mr. Beard was a faithful Christian and served many of his church communities over the years as a friend, lawn caretaker, trustee, deacon, and song leader. He called Oakdale Baptist Church in Jefferson County his church home for many decades before moving out to Bullitt County and serving at Freedom Baptist Church in Mount Washington, and finally Jackson Hills Church in Shepherdsville.
David's biggest joy in life was his wife and family. He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Emma, his parents Wash and Victoria, as well as his siblings James and Annabelle. He is survived by his children: Charlotte, Henry (Ronda), Donald (Darlene), John (June), Becky (Brett), Sallie (Mike), and Elizabeth. He is also survived by and blessed with an overflowing abundance of grandchildren and great grandchildren - his little monkeys - that love their papaw dearly and will miss him greatly.
Funeral service will be 7 pm Monday, June 14, 2021 at Hardy-Close Funeral Home located at 285 S. Buckman St. in Shepherdsville. He will be interred at Resthaven Cemetery on Bardstown Road in Louisville KY Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at 10 am. Visitations will be Monday 4 pm until time of service.
His daughter, Sallie, would like to express her deepest gratitude to the community of caregivers at Hosparus Health for their wonderful expression of love shown to David in his final weeks of life. She could not have walked alongside him through his final journey without their constant supply of compassion and help. They truly are the hands and feet of Jesus for a family in their deepest hour of need.
