Mac was one of my closest friends.  Jim Burks, He and I were safety supervisors for Chevron in the 90's and we formed the "East of the Rockies" alliance.  It was a true bond between us.  I will really miss him......

I am sure gonna miss Don! He was one of the kindest people I had the privilege of knowing. His smile was contagious and he gave the best hugs. I am so sorry I won't be able to attend any of the services as I am working both days but please know in my heart I am there!

Myself, and all of the rest of the Central IL Chapter are greatly saddened by Don's passing.  His good cheer, and down to earth ways endeared him to us, and to many many people in the VRA, and he was among the best Goodwill Ambassadors the Vulcan Riders Association ever had.  He will forever be missed.

Myself, my wife Diana, and any of the members of the Central IL Vulcan Riders who had ever met Don are so very sorry for your loss.  I met him the first time back in 2012 in East Peoria IL when I met up with a group of Vulcan Riders heading up to the VRA Rally in IA.  Since then it was always a joy to get to see Don in person, he was always so warm, friendly, and down to earth, and genuinely loved his motorcycle, his friends, and family.  Having been the National President for the VRA for a number of years, I counted Don as one of the very best goodwill ambassadors for the VRA that I had ever seen, and he will be greatly missed.  With deep sympathy, and tight hugs I am so very sorry for your loss.

I did not know Don well...but spoke with him a number of times on the phone. Usually these calls were when I was trying to reach Linda about something.  He was so funny and pleasant to speak to.  He always had a joking comment about what his wife was up to now.  I am so sorry for this loss.  My prayers to Linda and the family.

Sorry to here of his passing. Met him once felt like We had been friends a long time. 

I only had a few days to get to know Don at the VRA Kerrville Texas Rally. He was the most genuine example of what it is to be someone who loved life and the people around him. It was always a treat to go on our rides in groups no matter the number of people when Don was leading it was comforting to know he was in control and always safety was the top priority. I will truly miss his infectious smile and laughter and his postings of his rides with no destination in particular and the pictures he shared. Our hearts are hurting and God bless his family and many friends in this time of grief. Love Caren and Jeff Edwards

The first time I met Mac was back in 1976 at a party at his house. It was a memory I’ll never forget. Although in time we lost touch with one another, I always considered him and Linda, dear friends. My heart breaks for Linda and their girls. May the memories you all have help you through this difficult time. I’m praying for the whole family.

I met Don through a friend playing Golf at Penn Run.   He convinced me to join the Bluegrass Vulcan Riders and went on several rides with him.   Always made me feel welcome.  A true Gentlemen and I'm sorry we didn't get to spend more time together.

I met Don at the bike rallies a friend to many a brother to all. He was  always smiling he did have a smile i dont think I ever seen him not smile. You will me missed my friend

I'm heartbroken at the loss of a man I counted as one of my closest friends. Even though we only saw each other at motorcycle events, Don was someone you would never forget. Every time we got together it was like we saw each other every day. His jokes were the best, and rally rides will never be the same without him. My heart goes out to his family and his beloved  Bluegrass VRA chapter members. Donnie Mac, you will never be forgotten.

I first met Don in person May 14th, 2021 at the motel parking lot at Gallipolis, OH.  I had decided to join the  Bluegrass Vulcan Riders on their weekend "Mothman" ride.   I used this as the start of what turned out to be my 122-day, 18k plus mile cross-country ride.  Don and his fellow BVR members welcomed me with open arms as if they had known me all their lives even though the only contact I had with him was via FB.  Don was nice enough to let me ride with his group twice more, in June at Kerrville, TX and July at Grand Junction, CO - the last time I spoke to him as they rode off on their way home. Don was like a big brother and was a top notch Ride Captain who had a knack for finding great roads.  I am still struggling  with the fact that I will no longer be in a ride that  Brother Don planned, organized or lead.  But I know that he is in a better place and I look forward to someday meeting him again. God Bless you Don, and may you Rest in Peace!!

I’ll sum it this way, I don’t know a man who doesn’t want to be as well liked and loved as Ole Donnie Mac.  The description in the obituary is spot on.  He loved his family, his motorcycle family, golf, & fishing (and photography if you call riding with one hand and shooting photos with the other photography LOL).  He was a great man and a great inspiration.  Donnie Mac will be missed and know that we will watch the ballot to be sure you never vote the wrong way in the future brother!

They say the measure of man is how he treats people, his smile, his handshake, how he loves his friends & family, how he represents everything good in this world. Don, you are that person to everyone.

To have known you and shared even a speck of time in your life we were blessed beyond measure. You came into the life of the KVRA and you never looked back, we were brothers and sisters. To call you brother and friend was something not taken lightly. I wasn't able to ride much the last couple years but was able to get out and ride about 8-10 weeks ago on a ride with Don and our group. We hugged like not a day had gone past, we sat and talked like never a conversation had been missed. When we said good bye to finish the ride, we hugged again as he was heading home. I will always cherish this time.

To the McFarland family, we are so sorry for you loss, words will never cover what you must are feeling. We all grieve with you and for you. Know you have a place in our heart and if we can ever help in any way, we will.

I had the honor of meeting Don back in 2012.  We became friends over our love for Motorcycles.  I came to know and love him like a brother.  He always had a smile on his face and a good word to say.  I don't remember a single time that Don didn't seem happy.  He made everyone around him happy as well.  He was a genuine person and would give you the shift off his back if he could.  Every time I saw him he always had a handshake and a hug ready for me.  I will miss that so much.  May you ride free in heaven Don.  Till we can ride together again, you will remain in my heart.
