Jimmie D. Bates

Mr. Jimmie D. Bates, age 76, of Shepherdsville, returned to his Heavenly Father on Saturday, June 5, 2021. Mr. Bates was born in Wales, KY on July 22, 1944 to the late Lula Little and Fred Bates. He retired as a trucking company terminal manager after 37 years with George Transfer and CRST Malone. He graduated from Virgie High School and the Kentucky College of Barbering where he learned to become a skilled barber. He attended Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, was a Kentucky Colonel and an avid UK fan.

Among those who preceded him in death are, his wife, Doris “Jeannie” Bates; his siblings, Walter Hall, Fred “Junior” Bates, Buford Bates, S.J. Bates, Bobby Bates, Roger Bates and Beulah Bates and his beloved dog, Blanca.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his sons, James Dion Bates (Sheryl Kay) and Jeremy Daryl Bates (Taunja Andrea); his stepdaughter, Lynn Stetson; grandchildren, Austin Kai Bates (Danielle Kaitlann- Marie), Kayla Marie Bates (fiancé, Henry Thomas Terhune), Cameron Tyler Bates, Hannah Elizabeth Bates, Molly Katherine Bates and Emily Scharpf; 1 great- granddaughter on the way; siblings, Eula Mae Kovacs, Louise Jernigan and Cletus Bates; his significant other of 11 years, Patsy Tackett along with her daughters, Cecilia and Dollie Tackett; many dear friends and a host of other family.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, June 12, 2021 in the chapel of Schoppenhorst, Underwood and Brooks Funeral Home (Preston Hwy. at Brooks Rd.) with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Friends may pay their respects on Friday, June 11, 2021 from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Saturday from 9:00 am until the time of service at the funeral home.
