My deepest sympathies for your loss!! She was always a sweet, fantastic person. I know she will be missed until you are together again!

Mama's hands cared for many children; her younger brothers and sisters, her nieces, and the seven children born to her within ten years.    Mama's hands saved a life when she grabbed a blanket and wrapped her six-year-old daughter, Bonita, in it to put out the flames. Her hands removed the blankets and wrapped her in a sheet.  As she carried her towards the door she directed seven year-old Donna to watch the others. (a neighbor came over)  Mama's hands folded in prayer at the hospital for the nine months her little girl fought for her life and returned home healed and healthy to play again with her siblings.   Mama's hands helped her daughters cut out "Betsy McCall" paper dolls and ordered Christmas gifts from Sears and Spiegal. (We use to take the catalogs and circle the things we dreamed of owning. Once I received a barn-shaped box of art supplies for Christmas; I didn't know the stuff in those catalogs was real, until then!)

Mama's hands accepted a wedding ring from Lawrence Tipton, the man who fell for her after meeting this beautiful, black- haired girl in a red coat on the Camp Taylor Bus.  Mama's hands ironed this man's clothes and sent him off to work at General Electric for 18 years.  Mama's hands administered nitro glycerin pills and massaged Daddy's left arm; while she calmed him and her frightened children when he felt a spell coming on.  Mama's hands, alongside Daddy's, lit cigarettes, played cards, pressed the mic button on the C.B. radio, played bingo, hooked rugs, and cared for his mean yellow cat Punkin.  Mama's hands held her heart as she bid her husband of 56 years a peaceful goodbye in 2001.   Over the years, at many family gatherings mama's hands have made banana pudding, unwrapped many presents from loved ones, held babies, and patted the heads and hugged five generations of children; her siblings, her nieces and nephews, children, grandchildren, great grand children and great-great grandchildren.   Now let us take the time to appreciate the many hands that are here today because of Luerline Tipton and the many lives that have been touched by those hands.

Mama's hands filled bottles, changed diapers, and washed laundry in a wringer washer on the back porch and hung it out on the line to dry.  Mama's hands swept and mopped the floors on a hot day after she locked the children outdoors and stripped to her underclothes.    Mama's hands sewed dresses for her girls and the Smith girls out of material provided by their Mama. And, all of her granddaughters had the best-dressed dolls in the nation.    Mama's hands worked many years in a factory, bringing home a paycheck.  Then she turned her factory skills to operating mini-crane machines at the bingo hall.    Mama's hands generously shared a proliferous amount of stuffed animals and dolls with grandchildren, nieces and nephews, neighbor children and bingo children.  She gave them as presents to adults too, for any occasion that seemed appropriate.   Mama's hands hugged and held the neighbor's children as they sat on her cedar chest in front of the window and watched their house burn down.    Mama's hands lightly took a swipe with a switch to each child in a side-yard fracas, only to find out one of those children didn't belong to her.    Mama's hands drove the old brown station wagon up Brooks Hill and pulled it into Knob creek to wash the car and the children after a Kool-aid fight.

Dotti's Journal: Tuesday October 15   I didn't go to class tonight.  My mama passed on today.  Georgetown Manor called at 12:20 pm and said she was in her chair sleeping, as she sometimes does.  She became unresponsive and a pulse could not be gotten.  "I'll come right over."  I had my crying; John did too, hugging each other and holding her hands. I thought of all of the things these hands had done and would do no more.    Donna shared that she really loved it when she was in the hospital and I held her hands and we talked about the history of her hands.  She asked me to reflect and share with you about Mama's hands.   Mama's hands threw a chair at her daddy when he teased her.  He put her in the family sized baby bed and she stayed there because he told her to.  Aunt Dorothy tells me her daddy told their mother "well, I can't say anything, I deserved it."   Mama's tiny hands were tucked into the hands and pockets of her older sisters, Evelyn and Dorothy as she walked between them to school.    Mama's 9-year-old hands wiped tears from the eyes of her younger sister Alberta and brother Jimmie when their daddy never came home again from service during the flood of 1937.  Mama's hands braided her baby sister Zella's hair and helped her get ready for school.   Mama's hands caught her fall from roller skates. She broke her arm twice.  She told us she would leave skating to us.  But that didn't keep her from rolling down a grassy hill with her grandchildren at a rest area on the way to her daughter's wedding.  She broke her shoulder.    Mama's hands hugged her older brother Chris and waved good-bye when he became a soldier in the United States Army.   Mama's hands said goodbye to her 11th grade school friends so she could take care of her two young nieces Mary and Georgia.

So sorry for your loss Dotti.  Your family is in my thoughts/prayers during this difficult time.

I will never forget your love and kindness. We had good times growing up with the Tipton's. We needed each other.

Sorry for your loss.  I will not be able to come and be with you.  You all are in my thoughts and prayers.  As you know, we've been through this, too.  It is truly a great loss, I miss Mom and Dad every day.  Love to all of you.

My earliest memories are staying at their house in brooks. I remember being there and playing. I always loved when mom and Stepdad George said we were going to visit Aunt Luerline's house....  Loved running and just playing, seemed like the country to me.   The Gastinger family reunions were the greatest, everyone talking and visiting. Being a Gastinger has always meant being together as family.  Though I am out of town this weekend... my thoughts and prayers are with the family. Love you all. May God grant you peace and comfort during this time of deep loss.  Luerline, you will be missed.. tell Grandma, Aunt Evelyn, Uncle Cris and Uncle Larry I said Hello and we miss them! I'm sorry to here of Miss Tipton's passing. My prayers are with everyone who loves & will miss her dearly. She did love to talk. Heaven gained a special angel. Rest in piece Miss Tipton.

Mrs. Tipton, I only met you once at the Camp Taylor reunion.  But once was enough to let me know that you were a beautiful lady, both inside and out.  You raised a wonderful family.  Rest in peace now.  And I wish peace for you family. Wayne

She was the best bingo player there ever was.  May she rest in peace , she will be with the ones that have gone on before us . She's not alone, God will take care of her now an forever. An so will the family she will be with. Rest in peace Mrs. Tipton till we all meet again.
