Vera married the love of her life, Thomas Orr, in January 1971, and together they built a life centered on family, loyalty, and enduring devotion.
She is survived by her children, Roger Orr, Christine (Richard) Metcalf, Thomas Orr, and JoAnn Orr. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Alex Metcalf (Emma) Strickland, and Amanda, as well as her great-grandson, Jacob. Vera is further survived by her brother, Henry Apanasik, a host of nieces and nephews, and her cherished dog Cindy, who was a constant companion and brought her great joy. Her family was the center of her world, and she treasured every gathering, conversation, and shared moment.
Vera was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Thomas Orr; her parents, Fedor and Olena Woronekin; and her brothers, Big Nick, Little Nick, and Mike. She carried the memory of those she lost with quiet strength and held their place in her heart always.
Vera enjoyed the simple pleasures that made life meaningful. She loved playing cards and bingo, and she enjoyed trips to the casino, where she found excitement and fun in the company of others. She also liked watching game shows, sci-fi and horror movies, and cooking shows. One of her favorite pastimes was riding around with her dog Cindy to anywhere the two could go.
A visitation for Vera will be held at Hardy-Close Funeral Home 285 S. Buckman Street Shepherdsville, Kentucky 40165 on Friday, April 24, 2026 from 11am to 2pm. A funeral service will follow immediately in the funeral homes chapel at 2pm. Vera will be laid to rest privately in Highland Memory Gardens.
