

Funeral Services are under the direction of Buffington Funeral Home in Shiner, Texas and will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Buffington Funeral Home Chapel in Shiner, Texas with Reverend James Lee Kitchen of Lufkin, Texas officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Yoakum, Texas. Viewing will begin on Friday, May 31 at 9:00 am at Buffington Funeral Home. Family Visitation will be Saturday, June 1, 2013 from 12:30 until 2:00 pm.
Gerald was born October 29, 1934 in Groverton, Texas. He was the son of Lemmie J. and Susie (Mullins) Witt. Gerald graduated from Groverton High School and then he joined the U.S. Air Force as a mechanic in the Motor Pool and served for ten years.
Gerald married Shirley Bonsall on August 7, 1964 in Clovis, New Mexico. Gerald liked to tinker with anything that had a motor, and he could fix anything. When he was younger, Gerald liked to shoot some pool or go fishing. Gerald enjoyed taking care of his vegetable garden and giving the vegetables to family and friends. It has been said that Gerald was quite the storyteller, and the more he told the story, the more embellished and outrageous it became.
Gerald is survived by five daughters; Yvonne Cartwright and her husband, Les of Elmendorf, Texas, Becky McCook and her husband, Andy of Las Vegas, Nevada, Diane Lohman and her husband, Doyle of Deer Park, Texas, Gerri Ann Griego of Silver City, New Mexico, Dorothy Shoman and her husband, Michael of Scottsdale, Arizona, two sisters; SaraNell Lange and Letisha Witt, one brother; Glen Witt, one sister-in-law; Jeannette Roe, eleven grandchildren,twenty great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Lemmie and Susie Witt, His wife of forty years, Shirley Witt, three brothers; Lemmie Witt, Jr., Clifford Witt, and Weaver Witt.
