Harvey Louis Pohler

Harvey Louis Pohler, Sr., 95, of Shiner passed away on October 1, 2011.

A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 2, 2011 at the SS. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 3, 2011 at SS. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church with the Rev. Kirby Hlavaty officiating.

Burial will follow at Shiner Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Buffington Funeral Home, Shiner.

Pallbearers are grandsons, Harvey Dwayne Pohler, Clinton Pohler, Jaime Pohler, Tristan Pohler, Jason Pohler, and Wesley Pohler. Honorary pallbearers are all grandchildren.

He was born March 10, 1916 in Moulton, to the late Richard and Elizabeth Mang Pohler. He married Irene Kubicek in 1941. They had 4 sons. He was a devoted husband and father. He retired from farming and the tire dealership. He was a World War II veteran having served in Central Europe during 1941-1945 in the Army Air Force. He was a member of SS. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner, Moulton VFW, and Shiner American Legion.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years Irene Kubicek Pohler, one brother, Victor Pohler, Sr. of San Antonio, three sons, Harvey, Jr. and wife Vernice, Donald and wife Gerrie, and Michael and wife Deralee, all of Shiner, daughter-in-law, Cornelia Sherry Pohler of Moulton; sister-in-law, Rubie Stoelje Pohler of Victoria; 16 grandchildren, Yvonne (Doug) Mager, Jason Pohler, Harvey Dwayne (Shawna) Pohler, Jaime (Monique) Pohler, Craig Pohler and fiancé Erin Caka, Alicea (Greg) Strzelczyk, Christopher Pohler and fiancé Jessica Boysen, Brittany Pohler, Melanie (Doug) Nevlud, Tristan (Dana) Pohler, Wesley (Whitney) Pohler, Joshua (Lauren) Pohler, Nicholas Pohler, Matthew Pohler, Clinton Pohler, and Wendy (John) Blackerby; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Eugene “Boyce” Pohler, one sister, Elizabeth Pohler Skarke and brother-in-law Walter Skarke, and one brother, Arthur Pohler.
