

A Christian funeral and burial service will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home for Barbara “Pat” Sample Cole, 89, who passed away on October 28, 2014. Pastor Thomas Edmonds with St. Joseph’s Hospice will conduct the funeral service. Interment will follow the service at Forest Park East Cemetery.
Pat was born on October 18, 1925 in Ararat, AL and raised in Butler, AL. In 1945 she married the love of her life, Charles Edward Cole. They raised three children while she was a stay-at-home mom. After the children entered school she sold Avon and worked as a home care assistant. She was a long time resident of Shreveport.
Pat was a warm, open, loving Christian woman who was devoted to her family. She was a long-time member of Morningside Baptist Church and Kingston Road Baptist Church. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star. For the past six and a half years she lived at Garden Park Nursing Home. Pat was known for her joy of life and was always the life of any party. She loved the colors red and yellow, dogs and cats, reading and music. She played the harmonica for many occasions at Garden Park to the enjoyment of the staff and residents.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Charles Edward Cole; her son Dion, and his wife Patricia Frantz Cole, Katy, TX; her daughter Alliece Cole, Baton Rouge, LA; her grandson Benjamin, and his wife Autumn and great granddaughters Ashtyn and Addisyn Teekell, Walker, LA; and also by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Alliece Sample; her daughter Melody Shannon Cole Graham; her brothers Robert Sample, Joe Billy Sample, Marzene Fred “Tiny” Sample, Eugene “Buddy” Sample, and sisters Magerline James, Mary Lucille Jenkins, Mildred Moody, and Jessie Mae Barber.
Honorary pallbearers are Alice Moffett, Billy Joe Gentry and Ann Hill.
Pat and her family members are so grateful for the excellent care that she received from the staff of Garden Park Nursing Home and St. Joseph’s Hospice.
Visiting hours will be at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home on Saturday, November 1, 2014 from 12:00 to 1:00 with the service beginning at 1:00. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make donations to your favorite charity or St. Joseph’s Hospice, 668 Jordan St, Shreveport, LA 71101.
