Barbara Ann Fowler, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and teacher, passed peacefully on December 26, 2025, at the age of 84, in Shreveport, Louisiana. Born on July 12,1941, in Louisville, Kentucky, Barbara lived a life marked by kindness, devotion, and a quiet strength that touched everyone she met.
Barbara was a lifelong learner who valued education deeply. She earned a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Louisiana State University in Shreveport, as well as Bachelor’s Degrees in Education and Speech and Hearing Pathology from Northwestern State University. For 32 years, she dedicated her career to teaching first grade, where her patience, gentle encouragement, and love for children shaped countless young lives and left a lasting impact far beyond the classroom.
While attending Northwestern State University, Barbara met her devoted husband, Don Fowler. Together they shared 62 years of marriage built on faith, laughter, and unwavering support. Their greatest joy was their family, including their children Debbie Tarter and her husband Tom; Donnie Fowler and wife Jan; and Angela Brooks and husband Rusty. Barbara was a proud and devoted grandmother to Connor Tarter and wife Morgan; Mackenzie Files and husband Tyler; Jacob Tarter, Jared Fowler, Joel Fowler, Brooke Fowler, Josh Brooks, and Sean Brooks, and she was especially delighted by her great-grandchildren, Jack Tarter and Grayson Files.
Barbara found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. She loved reading, watching birds, and spending time with her beloved dog, Trixie. Family trips—especially to the beach—were treasured moments. She also enjoyed sewing, scrapbooking, and a good game of solitaire, finding peace and joy in the quiet rhythms of home.
Barbara will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her generous heart, and the deep love she had for her family. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched as an educator, a caregiver, and a constant source of encouragement and love.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at The Chateau at Montclair and LifePath Hospice Care for their kindness and devoted care during Barbara’s final days.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in honor of Barbara’s life and legacy.
