Barbara Jean Hammock passed away Monday, May 2, 2022 due to a lengthy battle with cancer and kidney disease. After being diagnosed at the age of 18, she also suffered a long painful battle with rheumatoid arthritis. She was a fighter.
Barbara was born June 2, 1949 in Converse, Louisiana to Walter Roy Ford and Nita Joy Ford, who both preceded her in death. She was a manager for a local packing company in Shreveport, Louisiana where she retired after many years. Her yard and flower beds were her pride and joy. She spent countless hours keeping the yard manicured. Her flower beds were full of the most beautiful Irises, which she cherished and loved. They had been in the family for 20+ years. Barbara was an animal lover, she had a special place in her heart for dogs. She was always rescuing stray dogs and getting them back to good health. At the end of the day, you could always find her watching her favorite westerns and Andy Griffith, while working her word find. She cherished the holidays she spent with the family.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Jack Lenox IV, daughter, Meshell Lenox Hinton, brother, Jimmy R. Ford and sister, Pat Ford.
A visitation for Barbara will be held Monday, May 9, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108. Following the visitation will be a celebration of life graveside service at 12:00 PM at Centuries Memorial Park, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108. Officiting the service will be Pastor Steve Casey. Honoring her as pallbearers will be Ronnie Kay, Mark Rhodes, Kit Collier.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to the Rheumatoid Arthritis Foundation, the Colon Cancer Foundation and the National Kidney Foundation.
