Betty Jeannette Borders

Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jim. They were married on April 23, 1944 and were happily married until his death in 1970. Jim was a doctor, and an officer and commander of many hospitals in the Air Force and Betty was a very proud officer’s wife. She truly loved that role. Betty continued to honor Jim as her husband and cherish his memory for the rest of her life. After Jim’s death, Betty resided in San Antonio for a number of years. She spent her last 24 years living in Shreveport.

She is survived by her three children; Janet (Bob) Tallant of Shreveport, LA , Cynnie (Mark) Schneider of San Antonio, TX, and Steve (Terrie) Borders of Vinton, LA. Also surviving Betty are her grandchildren; Michelle (Jeff) Murrell of Lufkin, TX, Jeremy Elliott and fiance’, Lena Kennard of Lufkin, TX, Joshua Elliott of Shreveport, LA, Zach (Christa) Borders of Spring, TX, Derek (Summer) Tallant of Kenner, LA and Lindsey (Troy) Adkins of Shreveport, LA. She is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren who will truly miss their Grandma Betty. She will live on in all of our hearts as we re-tell the many interesting, funny and poignant stories she shared with us through the years.

Betty grew up in Indianapolis, IN and attended Butler University and the Jordan Conservatory of Music. She was a Music Major with a wonderful soprano voice and sang regularly at Air Force and church functions. Betty’s wit, wisdom and graceful elegance will be missed by all, but Heaven has gained one angelic voice.

The family would like to thank her doctor, Richard Sipes, and the Home Instead Senior Care (especially Rachella Kirkwood) for their loving care during the last 6 years.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Betty on Saturday, June 17, 2017, from 1:00-3:00 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home.
