Betty L. Hicks "Nanny"

Life celebration services for Betty L. Hicks “Nanny”, 85, will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at 10:00 AM in Centuries Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be held Tuesday, July 26, 2016 from 5:00-7:00 PM.

Betty was born on May 25, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois and went to be with her Lord on July 22, 2016 in Shreveport, Louisiana. She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Eva Clement; husband, Charles Benjamin Hicks; sons, Charles Hicks and Danny Bowman; and her seven brothers and sisters. Betty is survived by her daughters, Sherri Tucker and husband Roy, and Lynn Ebarb and husband Ruben; honorary daughter, Dawn Straley; son, Kurt Hartke and wife Laura; her nine grandchildren including: Charlie Tucker, Taryn Delatte, Jennifer Mason, Kayla Breaux, Mark Ebarb, and Amy Hartke; and her nine great grandchildren.

Betty worked as a nursing assistant for Christus Schumpert for many years. She spent much of her life called to take care of the sick and in need. Betty was a natural caregiver. She enjoyed feeding people, often stuffing her family and friends until they could hold no more. Betty’s generosity didn’t end there. She would feed her dog “Baby” all of the best “human food” because “dog food” didn’t taste good. In her personal spare time Betty could be found at the local bingo parlor, crocheting, or doing word finds. Her family likes to think that “Nanny” is in heaven right now playing cards with her siblings and catching up.
