Carla Marie May Thomas, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and godmother, of Shreveport, Louisiana, went to be with the Lord on May 26, 2026 after a long battle with illness, at the age of 76. Born July 5, 1949, at Barksdale Air Force Base to Henry James May Sr. and Bessie Norita Quave May.
Carla will be remembered as a vivacious presence whose fun loving and spirited way brought joy to those around her.
Carla had many jobs over the years, as a hairdresser, homemaker, medical billing specialist with her brother, and finally as a bookkeeper, supporting the financial side of Glass Contractors alongside her husband.
Carla shared 55 years of marriage with her husband, Joe, building a life rooted in friendship, love and family. She was very outgoing and deeply enjoyed time spent with her husband and family, and that joy was returned in full—as people simply loved being with her also. Carla found happiness in flowers and gardening, playing cards, cooking, entertaining and just being with family and friends. She held a special tenderness for small children, especially babies.
Left to cherish her memories are her husband, Joe Thomas; son, Shane Thomas and wife Lori Owens; daughter, Michelle Hunter, husband, Tony, and their son, Blake; son, Richard Thomas, Jeanne Stuckey Thomas, and their children Kade & Aaron Thomas; brothers, Henry "Scoot" May and wife Sandra, Albert "Skip" May and wife Dianne, and Harry Louis May and wife Diana; as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, extended family, and special friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, several aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, LA 71108, US, on June 13, 2026, at 1:00 pm.
The family would like to give a special thanks to all the nurses and doctors at Willis Knighton Pierremont for their care in the last year.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Bridge Alzheimer's & Dementia Resource Center (https://alzbridge.org/) or the Alzheimer's Association (https://www.alz.org/) in honor of Carla.
