A visitation for Chris will be held Saturday, July 8, 2023 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home & Park, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108, followed by a celebration of life at 1:30 PM.
Christopher "Chris" Quinn Carlson was born on November 8, 1958 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada to Kendall Eugene Carlson and Frances Patricia Ann Brennan Halstrom.
Chris's father was a WWII Ace Fighter pilot and because of this, Chris was always interested in aviation and history. Chris began building model airplanes at an early age and joined the SHARKS model airplane club as a teenager. This would become a lifelong passion that would lead to Chris obtaining his pilot's license and becoming a certified aircraft mechanic. Chris would go on to own and fly many different aircraft and became a highly regarded member of the aviation community.
Chris held many different jobs, from Grecian Marble, to the restaurant industry with Kon Tiki, to Mid-State RTI Distributing to finally working for himself as an aircraft mechanic. Chris was a very active member in his community. He was a member of the SHARKS Model Airplane Club, the River Cities Corvette Club and the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), to name a few. He was also awarded the Spirit of Haughton Award from the EAA.
Chris had many friends, as he was a joy to be around. He could carry on a conversation on almost any topic and he had a wonderful sense of humor. Chris would go out his way to help anyone in any way that he could.
Chris lead a full life, consisting of a variety of experiences, mostly good. However, he said that the very best thing that ever happened to him was getting married to Debbie. He is certainly missed but his friendship, contributions, and character will carry on in our hearts and memories. After a four year battle with cancer, he left his hardship behind on Monday, June 5, 2023 at his home in Shreveport.
Left to cherish those memories are his wife of 23 years, Debbie Shivers Carlson; sister-in-law, Vicki Shivers Seraphine; nephews, Chad Ellis (Teresa) and Jack Seraphine (Brooke); niece, Marscha Seraphine and his long time friends, Skip, Carolyn and Bert Harper.
He was preceded in death by his mother and stepfather, Patricia and Bud Halstrom and his father, Kendall Carlson.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the nurse and staff of St. Joseph Hospice, especially Sarah Susilovich and Clarice Morgan, and Dr. Jason Calligas of Ochsner LSU Health for their tremendous care they showed him and our family.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Chris' memory may be made to Holy Angels of Shreveport, https://www.laholyangels.org/; and Shreveport-Bossier City Rescue Mission, https://www.sbrescuemission.com/.
