

Don Ashley aka Pepaw , his heart so consumed by the love of his beloved wife Debbie of 51 years and his children and grandchildren couldn’t wait any longer to thank his Heavenly Father for his family and let go after his hard fought battle with heart disease and walked hand and hand with Jesus into Heaven on August 20, 2025 in Shreveport, LA.
There were many things we cherish about him. His service to his family, friends and community. One thing we cherish highly is his love,his smile and his laughter. If you knew him,you knew his thunderous laugh and his love of fun with his family and friends.
Donald W. Ashley, born on November 1st 1951, in McAllister, Oklahoma. Don moved to Shreveport in the early 1960’s and graduated from Captain Shreve High School in 1969. He was known for his kind heart, strong work ethic, and his deep love for both his family and his friends. Don lived a life full of generosity, offering help to anyone who needed it, whether through his professional endeavors in a 40 year law enforcement career, as a Shreveport Police Officer, Detective, and Investigator with the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office. He also started the local chapel of Cops for Christ.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Don is survived by his loving wife, Debra (Debbie) Ashley; his children, Jason Ashley(and his wife, Carrie Ashley), Jenifer Ashley, and Kristen Liverman ( and her husband, JR Liverman) his cherished grandchildren, Jackson and Reese Ashley; Camden, Jacob, John and Joshua Liverman. as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his beloved best friend and brother, Gary Lee Ashley, cherished and chosen daddy, James Quaye Ashley, and loving mother, Gloria Jean Martin Ashley.
Don’s sense of humor, unwavering loyalty, and warm personality left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. Whether sharing a laugh with friends or offering wisdom to his children, Don's presence was always a source of comfort and inspiration.
Don loved LSU sports and enjoyed tailgating with family and friends. Therefore, the family will host a tailgate for Don celebrating his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you share the type of generosity that Don displayed with others, as he was a faithful servant of our Lord.
Don aka Pepaw will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of kindness, integrity, and community service will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched.
The family would like extend a special acknowledgment and thanks to the Susla Family, Uncle Alan, Aunt Mica, Steven, Emily, Brilan, Bennett, Matt, Sammie, and Parker for their constant love and support throughout the years. Family is not an important thing, it is everything. You have brought so much joy to our lives and we love you all. We would also like to thank The Guest House of South Shreveport for the loving care Daddy received.
