Gary Wayne Blanton (1948-2025), passed away peacefully, in his home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with Cancer on Saturday, December 27, 2025. Gary’s warmth, generosity and unwavering spirit touched the lives of all who knew him.
Son of Winston Blanton and Josephine Blanton and brother of Leonard Blanton, Gary was a strong believer of Jesus Christ and lived his life to the glory of God everyday. His greatest honor was serving as a Deacon at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Shreveport under the pastorate of Brother Bill Stowell. Throughout his life he was known for his hard work, integrity, compassion for animals and the kindness he extended to everyone he met.
Gary attended Southern Arkansas University where he received his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and continued his education at LSU Shreveport where he received his Masters of Science in Information Systems Technology. He dedicated 35 years to his career in Information Technology where he worked for companies including Arkla Gas, Dal-Tile International and Mohawk Industries. He retired after a successful career as Senior Director of Technology Services and went on giving something back by volunteering at charities. He worked as a Child Advocate with CASA for 10 years, representing foster children in family court in Fort Worth. Gary also volunteered for 11 years as a certified Crisis Counselor at Suicide and Crisis Center of North Texas.
Gary had a deep appreciation for the simple joys in life. Whether enjoying time outdoors, spending time with family and friends, or support his favorite teams, he cherished every moment. His sense of humor, calm demeanor and infectious laughter and smile brought comfort and happiness to those around him.
Gary was a devoted husband to his wife Rebecca with whom he shared 52 years of marriage, marked by a love that was both selfless and evident to all who knew them. Throughout his final days, his devotion to Rebecca never wavered, and she looks forward to the day they will be together again in heaven.
We are so grateful for the time we shared with Gary and for the love, wisdom and joy he brought into our lives. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him. As we gather to celebrate his life and honor his memory, may we find comfort in knowing that he is at peace with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Services will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 2:00 at Centuries Memorial in Shreveport. Visitation before the service at 1:00.
