

SHREVEPORT, LA – Celebration of Life services for Mr. Gary Cecil Harkey, 77, will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday, November 5, 2011, at Lemley Funeral Home Chapel in Oneonta , Alabama with Dr. Larry Gipson officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation Saturday, November 5, 2011, from 12:00 pm until time of service at Lemley.
Mr. Harkey was born October 31, 1934, in Tarrant, Alabama to the late William Cecil and Dessa Emmaline Foley Harkey and was called to his Heavenly home October 31, 2011 in Shreveport, Louisiana. Gary was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church where he sang in the church choir and was active in the Grief support counseling group. Mr. Harkey retired several years ago after a long career as Comptroller at LSU Medical Center in Shreveport. He enjoyed hobbies, such as riding his motorcycle, and working with stained glass. Mr. Harkey will be remembered as a devoted husband and loving father.
Mr. Harkey is preceded in death by his parents, wife; Martha Joan Jackson Harkey, and Brother-in-law; Larry Jackson. Left to cherish Gary’s memory and share his stories will be two daughters; Mary Herring and husband Tim, Diane Harkey Evans and husband Neil, one sister; Sharon Morris and husband Wayne, one sister-in-law; Carolyn Jackson, along with numerous extended family members and many great friends.
Honoring Mr. Harkey as Pallbearers will be David Jackson, Mike Jackson, Scott Little, Wayne Morris, David Morris, and Kevin Holden.
