George Alvin Brice, 84, of Shreveport, Louisiana passed on February 19th, 2024. Al was a native of Shreveport and was born on September 14, 1939 to parents Samuel Boyce Brice and Ruth B. Dieball. He was the second youngest child of their four children, so that meant his big sister, Barbara and big brother, Sammy were always looking after him to make sure he stayed out of trouble. During his youth, that was a challenging job but after high school Al chose to serve his country by becoming a marine. He left the marines and then joyed the Shreveport Police Department in 1970. Al was a natural leader and was even the president of his police academy class. As an officer he joined many specialized units including SWAT, narcotics and as a K9 officer. Over his 22 years with the department, he worked his way up to ranking of lieutenant and was even the recipient of Law Officer of the Year. After he left SPD, he then took a security administrative position with Horseshoe Casino until finally settling into retirement.
Al was known for loving the outdoors. He spent every day he could in his rocking chair under his pergola, listening to the birds and watching his Koi fish swim in the pond. He mowed every chance he could (maybe even when it didn't need it). He loved to entertain family and friends where he would burn ribs on his grill but make one of the best pans of baked beans you ever had. It was said that he never met a stranger. It was rare to go somewhere with him without him running into somebody who knew him. He loved motorcycles, especially his Harley-Davidsons. His annual trips to the condo in Panama City Beach were something he looked forward to every year, where he was able to spend time with the ones he loved. Friday lunches at Angelo's were also something he never wanted to miss. In retirement, there was rarely a day he didn't make a trip to Kroger for something. During the fall you were sure to find him watching the LSU Tigers or New Orleans Saints with his sons and in the spring it was the Texas Rangers that he was tuned into. He drove his wife crazy daily, but he loved her more than anything in the world. He loved his boys no matter what and was there for them whenever they needed him. He absolutely adored his grandchildren and was the best papa on the planet.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Anne Brice, son, George Brice (wife, Brenda) and son, Taylor Brice (wife, Jamiee). He also leaves behind grandchildren, Heather, Trey, Albree, Mary, Loralee, and Carter as well as great-grandchildren, Kayleni, Brice, Annelis, and McKinlee and brother, Samuel B. Brice with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by father, Samuel Boyce Brice and mother, Ruth B. Dieball as well as sister, Barbara Ridgell and brother, Eugene "Happy" Brice.
A visitation for George will be held Friday, February 23, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108, followed by a celebration of his life at 12:00 PM. He will be laid to rest in Centuries Memorial Park. Pastor Doug Lovett will officiate the services.
Al will be carried to his final resting place by pallbearers, James "Sonny" Redding, Gary Spurlock, Adam Vigil, Matthew Brice, Daniel Doan and Zachary Brice. Honorary pallbearers are Jack Miller, Don Rittenberry and Rick Berry.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make a donation to Pet Savers of Shreveport that cared for his dogs, Buddy and Cooper before they became his pups. The family would also like to extend special thanks to the staff of Cypress Point Nursing and Rehab.
