Johnny Reese Moore affectionately known to his friends and family as "J.R." or "Papa John" was born September 20, 1931 in Lucknow, Louisiana to Hazel Haire Moore and George Moore. He spent his life serving others. J. R. honorably served his country in the United States Air Force for four years. J.R.'s passion and occupation was working as a general contractor for the last 40 plus years. He also served as a contractor for the Town of Greenwood, helping install the water system and as a building inspector. He also served as a volunteer fireman for Greenwood Fire Department for most of his life. He was a lifelong member of the Louisiana Fireman Association and the Greenwood Masonic Lodge. J.R. was a staple in the Greenwood Community.
J.R. loved spending time outdoors. He enjoyed raising horses, dogs and especially liked hunting rabbits. Most of all, he adored spending time with his family and friends. He went home to be with the Lord Monday, January 8, 2024 at the age of 92. He will be deeply missed by all those who loved him.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Johnny Moore Jr. and wife, Belinda and Rodney Free; grandson, Ryan Moore and wife, Tiffany; great grandchildren, Joshua Moore, Lane Brann, Reba Brann, and his brother, W. E. Moore; and numerous extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Jo Moore and Jerry Moore; daughter, Debbie Moore.
A visitation for "J. R." will be held Saturday, January 13, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Westview Christian Church, 7188 Greenwood Road, Shreveport, LA 71119, followed by a celebration of life at 1:00 PM. Officiating the services will be Pastor Randy Ray and Pastor Gray Boswell.
