James Quay Ashley

James Q. Ashley, born February 8, 1929 in Rule, TX, went to his Heavenly Home, surrounded by his wife and family on June 9, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ida and Raymond Reynolds Ashley; sisters, Dorothy Faye Trussel and Ida Mae Price; and a son, Gary Lee Ashley. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Gloria J. Ashley of Shreveport; sons Larry (Deborah) Ashley of Houston, TX and Don (Debbie) Ashley of Shreveport, 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Orphaned at an early age, James was raised by his uncle Clarence “Pevine” and Aunt Jessie Ashley. James served Honorably in the United States Army as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne, from 1951 to 1956. He married Gloria on March 3, 1954 in McAlester, OK. He worked 60 plus years in the optical Industry, his last 24 years spent with Eye Care in Shreveport. “Papa’s” grandsons will be honoring him as pallbearers.

Visitation will be June 13, 2014 from 5 to 7 pm at Centuries Memorial funeral Home, Shreveport, LA. Services will be held Saturday, June 14th, 10:00 AM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park Cemetery.
