Jimmy was born on July 5, 1942, in Shreveport, LA to Cheslie and Irene Gibbons. On September 12, 1977, he married Marilyn Joyce McCrory. Together, they raised five children: Chris, Doug, Theresa, Kim, and Jimmie Dee.
James was a proud U.S. Vietnam War veteran and worked for Southern Pacific Railroad for 23 years as a dedicated railroad engineer before retiring. After retirement, James embraced a variety of hobbies, including photography, music, and acting. He found joy in taking classes at Northwood Studios, where he forged lasting friendships and connected with mentors. A true lover of life, James was always up for a good time, and his fun-loving spirit will be remembered by all who knew him.
A gifted teacher, James enjoyed sharing his love of music with his grandchildren, helping them discover their own talents. He was also passionate about woodworking and spent much of his time traveling and spending quality moments with family and friends.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents Cheslie and Irene Gibbons, his brother Fred Gibbons, his sister Ona Lee Burns, and his wife, Marilyn Joyce Gibbons.
He is survived by his children, Theresa Osburne, Kim Gonzalez and her husband Steve, Jimmie D. Stewart, Chris Gibbons and his wife Samantha, and Doug Gibbons and his wife Jenni; his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many dear friends.
A visitation for Jimmy will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, LA 71108. A Celebration of Life will follow at 11:00 AM, with a graveside service at 12:00 PM. Jimmy will be laid to rest in the Veteran Field of Honor Garden, Lot 213, Grave 8.
