

Shreveport, LA A service celebrating the life of Janis Ruth Rich Coleman will be conducted Thursday, March 10, 2016, 11:00 AM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, Shreveport, LA. Officiating will be Bro. Ray Joslyn. Interment will follow in Centuries Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be from 5 until 8 PM Wednesday, March 9, at the funeral home.
Janis was born July 13, 1947 in El Dorado, AR. She went to be with her Lord March 4, 2016 in Shreveport, LA. She was a 1965 graduate of C. E. Byrd High School, graduated from La Tech in 1970. She received her Real Estate License in 1972 and her Insurance License in 1981.
Mrs. Coleman taught school for a short time and worked in the insurance industry for many years, owning insurance agencies and a construction company with her husband and family. She retired from Maynard, Clark and Teasley in 2013. She was a member of the Shreveport Baptist Temple, Shreveport Bossier Board of Realtors, and Insurance Women of Shreveport Bossier.
Jan, known as Nana to many, was a caring and loving mother of five, grandmother of ten, aunt, and friend. She was strong willed and cared for all. After her oldest son Chris, was in a tragic accident she cared for him for 7 years. She fought a courageous battle with diabetes and glaucoma which caused her retirement in 2013.
Mrs. Coleman is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Coleman; step-father, C. H. Thurmond, Jr.; mother, Nelda Sims Thurmond; son, Chris Coleman; daughter, Jennifer Coleman; brother, Randy Rich; sister, Dorothy Abramson; brothers in law, Dillard Coleman, Jr. and Steve Coleman. She is survived by her son, Todd Coleman and wife Elisha; daughters, Jill Coleman and Julie Freeman and husband Jared; grandchildren, Bailey Coleman, Rileigh and Jackson Greening, Lainey Presley, Kaleb, Chance and Lydia Freeman, McKenzie Coleman, and Claudia and Madelyn Mann; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, all of whom she loved dearly.
Honoring her as pallbearers are Todd Coleman, Scott Rich, Jay Abramson, Scott Marler, Laine Coleman, Shane Coleman, Kevin Ward and Bill Bond. Honorary pallbearers are Chris Coleman, Jackson Greening, Kaleb Freeman and Chance Freeman.
The family would like to express a special thank you to Janice Ward for her love and care and to the family and friends who continuously prayed and cared for her.
