Gloster, LA Jerry "Dean" Ramsey, 64, went home to be with our Lord on Monday, March 7, 2016. He was at home in Gloster, LA surrounded by his family and friends he loved. Though his battle with lung cancer was short, he always had a positive attitude, a big smile, lots of strength and courage and knowing that whatever happened was God's plan for him.
Dean was born in Shreveport, LA on February 20, 1952 to Charles E. Ramsey and Irene Dail Ramsey. Dean grew up in Logansport, LA and graduated from Logansport High School in 1970. Dean grew up and worked with his parents at Ramsey Body Works in Haslam, TX and learned to do automotive bodywork from his parents. He was the Body Shop Manager for Bill Hanna Ford and Rountree Olds-Cadillac for many years; Staff Appraiser for USAA where he retired to pursue his dream of owning and operating his own company, Auto Damage Appraisers. Dean & Kathy enjoyed working together everyday for over 10 years.
Dean was a Baptist, a 28 year master mason and past master of the Lebanon Lodge No. 440, 32nd Degree Mason of the Scottish Rite of Shreveport, and a member of the El Karubah Temple of Shreveport LA.
Dean's passions were rebuilding and restoring vehicles, duck hunting, NASCAR, the LSU Tigers, the N.O. Saints, riding his tractor, push mowing many acres, ironing, and riding roller coasters and fair rides. He was a fire bug with timber & brush stacks burning all the time. Dean had a saying for everything and was always making us laugh!!
His parents Charles E. Ramsey and Irene Dail Ramsey, and his brother Charles E. Ramsey Jr. preceded him in death. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 30 years, Kathy Caldwell Ramsey, their daughter Melissa Anderson and husband Shane, and his precious grandsons Hayden and Cooper; sisters Doris & Dave Calhoun, Canton TX and Enola Sue and Harold Bridges, Hallsville TX, and many other relatives and friends. Dean also leaves behind his “little GG” Chloe, his beloved Bichon Frise.
Honoring Dean as pallbearers will be Randy Bounds, Ricky Smith, Eddie Caldwell, Richie Millican, Shane Anderson, Dave Peterson, Antonio Alexander and Brian Jones.
Visitation and funeral services honoring Dean will be held at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, Shreveport, LA. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 pm on Friday, March 11, 2016 and funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, March 12, 2016. Burial will follow at Forest Park West. The family wishes to express their love and appreciation to Drs. Robert Massingill and Roscoe Chan, and all of the men and women at Christus Schumpert Cancer Treatment Center. Thank you to his nurses from Christus Hospice. Dean’s last wish was to be able to stay at home and we were blessed and honored to grant his last wish.
