Karlene Alice Huckabee, went to be with the Lord, Monday, April 3, 2023, after celebrating her 84th birthday, the day before with her family. Kerry or Mimi, as she was affectionately known, was born to Carl L. Stav and Claire Brown in Los Angeles, California on April 2, 1939.
Kerry was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She met her husband Col. Gerald Pierce Huckabee in Reno, Nevada, while he was a survival instructor during his career in the United States Air Force. Together they raised three beautiful children and had the best time-sharing their life. They enjoyed traveling, meeting new friends and being active in their communities and churches. She was a resident of the Oaks in Shreveport for a couple of years before moving to the Chateau at Montclair. She spent her last 12 years with Alzheimer's disease.
Kerry was a fun loving warm person, who loved her Lord, her family and others. She had friends all over the country she still kept in touch with, playing games over the phone with some and just catching up with others. She was a phenomenal host, always keeping her house tidy, food on the table, especially her famous breads and knew how to start the party, mainly with games. She was also known to many as the “Queen of Farkle”.
Kerry was a Jill-of-all trades. She tried her hand with gardening, painting, doll making, furniture restorations (shabby chic), button and pin making, cooking and baking, just to name of few. She liked playing tennis, golf, skiing with her husband and family and walking. She adored animals, especially her Poodle, Bridgett and all her grand dogs.
Kerry was an example of generosity and beacon of light. She ministered to others, serving in her church and feeding others with no place to go. She instructed her children and grandchildren how to lead with kindness and love. Mimi was truly a blessing to those whose was touched by her affection and will be dearly missed. She was greeted in Heaven by her husband of 57 years, Gerald and many other family and friends.
Left to cherish her precious memory are her sister, Sharon Huffman, her beloved children, Keith Huckabee, Kathy Doyle McClintock and her husband, Charlie Pat, and Kristi K. Fafara and her husband, David; her adored grandchildren, Madison Thomas and husband, Jurdon, Rachel Opie and husband, James, Hannah Chance and her husband, Brady and Carson Doyle; great grandchildren, Mickie June, Carter, Violet, Evelyn, Landry, Archer and Cooper; along with numerous extended family members and loving friends.
A visitation celebrating Kerry will be held Tuesday, April 11, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108, followed by the service at 12:00 PM. Officiating the service will be Pastor Troy Parker. Kerry will be laid to rest will her husband at the Northwest Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 7970 Mike Clark Rd., Keithville, Louisiana 71047.
Kerry had a love of flowers, therefore flowers are encouraged to honor her life.
The family would like to express immense gratitude to the staffs of Lifespan Hospice and the Chateau at Montclair, for all their support and care shown to Mimi and the family.
