A Life Celebration in honor of Mrs. Mamie Sue Barnes, 84, will be held 2:30 PM, Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home. Pastor Mark McWhiney will serve as officiant. The family will welcome visitors from 12:30 PM until service time at the funeral home.
On Friday, October 14, 1932 in the quiet little community of Sailes, LA, John Clarence Long and Sue Willie Cooper Long welcomed Mamie Sue into this world. From that moment on, this middle child (who insisted that she always got blamed for everything) began to leave her mark on all those that had the privilege of getting to know her. Though small in stature, her personality was larger than life, but even that didn’t overshadow the size of her heart. She proved herself to be a compassionate care giver, always putting others before herself.
Mamie was a very creative soul. She worked at Larry Robinson Studios for over thirty years making her photographic subjects even more beautiful as a color artist. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose interests included pottery and butterflies. She also carried her talent into the kitchen where she created the best homemade biscuits, fried chicken and fried apple pies.
Heaven gained this precious soul as she felt the loving embrace of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, April 17, 2016.
Preceding Mrs. Barnes in death are her parents, her loving husband Charley Statham, daughter Mary Eva Smith and three brothers. Left to cherish her memory are her husband Danny R. Barnes, son Charles Statham with wife Dorothy, daughter Debbie Smith, grandchildren Kristen Watts with husband John, Brian Smith with wife Sarah, Amanda Tucker with husband David, Lindsay Edwards with husband Matt, Jason Smith, Justin Smith, Jennifer Smith, sister Edwina Unser and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff of The Garden Court Rehabilitation Center and Willis Knighton Bossier for loving care.
In Lieu of flowers, the family request that a donation be made to the Susan G. Komen foundation in her honor.
