Susie served the Caddo Parish School System for more than 40 years as a teacher’s aide, offering steady support and care to countless students and educators. A devoted member of Broadmoor Baptist Church for over 60 years, Susie loved the Lord and remained deeply faithful throughout her life.
Susie went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 10, 2026 at the age of 91 in Bossier City, Louisiana. She leaves behind a legacy marked by her steadfast faith and devoted heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Burton Loftus, Andrew “Andy” Loftus and Danny Loftus, her sister, Edith Loftus Henderson and her son-in-law, Ricky Withem.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Charles Stephen Atkisson and fiancé Patti Knight ; her daughter, Donna Atkisson Withem; grandchildren, Susan Atkisson Bordelon, Tricia Atkisson Breaux, Jennifer Withem Todd, and Andrew James Withem and wife, Whitney Withem; and great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Lee Bordelon, Madelyn Paige Bordelon, Elizabeth Ann Breaux, Leigh Marie Todd, and Hazel Ruth Withem.
Visitation will be held at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, LA 71108, on May 14, 2026, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Celebration of Life will follow at Centuries Memorial Chapel, on May 15, 2026, at 1:00 pm. Committal will be held at Shiloh Baptist Church, 322 Church Rd, Keatchie, LA 71046, on May 15, 2026, at 3:00 pm.
Honoring her as pallbearers will be A.J. Withem, Rob Padgett, Scott Serio, Jonathan Todd, Cole Edwards, and Jay Lowring.

The family would like to thank the staff at Colonial Oaks and the Bristol Hospice team for the care, kindness, and compassion shown in Susie’s final days. Special thanks are also extended to her devoted granddaughter, Susan Bordelon, for the love and dedicated care given as her primary caregiver these past few years. Your patience, dignity and gentle support brought peace, making her feel safe, valued, and cared for each day. Your kindness will never be forgotten.
