Nelwynn led an amazing life. After graduating from high school in Haynesville, LA, she and three friends traveled to Washington DC to work for the U.S. Army Quartermaster Corps during World War II. On VJ Day in 1945, Nelwynn met her future husband, who was serving in the US Navy. After marriage, she worked at Louisiana Tech University.
They eventually settled in Shreveport, LA where she became a bookkeeper. Nelwynn had a great love for her family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed traveling with friends and enjoyed a yearly reunion with her husband’s former shipmates on the USS Vulcan where he served during WW2. Nelwynn was a faithful member of Brookwood Baptist Church.
Nelwynn is survived by her son Martin Lentz and wife Peggy of Dayton, OH; daughter-in-law Linda Lentz of Keithville, LA; and sister Johnette ‘Pete’ Tinsley of Arcadia, LA. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and lifelong friends.
Nelwynn was preceded in death by her husband Edgar Lee Lentz; son Eric ‘Randy’ Lentz; parents; and brothers W. Travis Sutton and M. C. Sutton.
A visitation for Nelwynn will be held Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, LA 71108, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM. Internment will take place in Centuries Memorial Park. Rev. John Harp of Brookwood Baptist Church and Gary Melanson will be officiating services. Honoring Nelwynn as pallbearers are Chris Sutton, Keith Sutton, Kenneth Sutton, Jonathan Hood, Jeff Lentz, and Steve Nicksic. Honorary pallbearers are Rick Sutton, John Sutton, Steve Sutton and Ken Lentz.
