Newman Clyde McWhiney was born in Mansfield, Louisiana to the late Hoyle Thomas McWhiney and Jennie Ruth Rambin McWhiney. He honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict. During his service to this country, he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal. Following his discharge from the Army, he worked for over 20 years as a Truck driver with Saia Motor Freight, where he also earned a Safe Driving Award. Clyde enjoyed raising and showing sheep, being involved in the 4-H Club, livestocks shows and Rodeos. He went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, February 23, 2023 in Bossier City, Louisiana at the age of 73.
Clyde is survived by his son, Paul McWhiney (Leigh); grandchildren, Jackson, Jacob and Samantha; siblings, Ramona Moreau (Don), Dottie Statham (Charles), Yvonne Navarre (Al), Mark McWhiney (Rita), Steven McWhiney (Bridget); special friend, Kay Reynolds (Ronald); along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Robert McWhiney, Jerry McWhiney, Larry McWhiney, Patrick McWhiney, Rosemary McWhiney, Shirley Hamilton and Ruth Stone.
A visitation for Newman Clyde will be held Saturday, February 25, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108, followed by a celebration of life at 2:00 PM. He will be laid to rest in Centuries Memorial Park. Officiating the services will be his brother, Mark McWhiney. Serving as pallbearers are Kenny Phillips, Jennifer Woolley, David Tucker, Marshall Tucker, Charles Staham and Al Navarre.
