Paula Marie (Hodges) Wagley Hostetter, age 71, of Elysian Fields, Texas passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2020. She was born August 2, 1949 in Baytown, Texas to Betty Jo Shadowens Hodges and Walter A. Hodges Jr.
Paula enjoyed singing, watching sports, and traveling. However, her favorite role was being Grammy to her grandchildren. Prior to her passing she was serving as the soloist at Bethany Methodist Church. Paula graduated from East Texas Baptist College with her bachelor’s degree, and she went on to obtain her master’s degree from East Texas State University. Paula taught English, Speech, and Theatre at Elysian Fields High School. She spent 30 years working for the Elysian Fields Independent School District. While working for the school district she served in countless roles at Elysian Fields High School including Director of the One-Act Play and UIL Coordinator. Her students won countless awards in UIL Speech and Debate. She had several students throughout her career compete at the state level. Her One-Act plays were regularly successful and often advanced in competition.
Paula is survived by her husband, Rev. Gary D. Hostetter; son Dr. Spencer A. Wagley and daughter-in-law Rebekah Wagley; stepmother Sue Hodges; granddaughter Madeline Cromer and husband Austin Cromer; grandson Sullivan Wagley.
Paula was preceded in death by her parents and stepmother Neida Hodges; brother Milton Hodges and stepsister Marilyn Acker Lawhorn.
A visitation for Paula will be held Thursday, November 5, 2020 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Rd, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108. A funeral service will occur Friday, November 6, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Bethany Methodist Church, on Hwy 79 in Bethany, LA., officiating will be Rev. Gary D. Hostetter, Dr. Spencer A. Wagley, and Rev. Kevin Moore. Interment will follow at Centuries Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Paula’s name to a church of your choice.
The family would like to thank the countless doctors, nurses and physical therapists who provided care for Paula during her last few months of life.
