Ralph Smith Kress was born August 1, 1931, to Herbert Smith and Hattie Anderson Kress in Saltville, Virginia. He entered eternity on September 18, 2021. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Centuries Memorial Chapel in Shreveport, Louisiana. A Celebration of His Life will follow at 11:00 a.m.
He joined the United States Air Force, retiring after 22 years in 1973. He served his country as a flight engineer on several aircrafts, including the C-141 during the Viet Nam conflict. After retirement from the military, he worked at the General Electric plant in Shreveport.
Ralph served as a greeter at Brookwood Baptist Church and enjoyed helping with the Senior Ministry. He had a life-time love for cooking, and shared this gift with his family and church friends. The highlights of his week included the Men’s Fellowship Breakfast and attending Wednesday and Sunday services at his church home.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Patsy Bryan Kress, his parents and a brother, Wayne Kress. He will be greatly missed by his family, which includes four daughters, Linda (Byron) Longino, Sharon (Stephen) Moreland, Diana (Jack) Huckabee, and Carole Kress, and his sister, Louise Clark and brother, Bryan Kress. Mr. Kress also leaves a legacy of 9 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
