Robert “Bob” Hughes of Shreveport, Louisiana passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 23, 2024. Born December 19, 1923 in Winnfield, Louisiana to Earnest and Ruthie Shelton Hughes, lived a blessed 100 years and 10 months. Bob was happily married to Leona Ansley Hughes for 55 years. Remembrance will begin at 10:00 am with services and burial to follow at 11:00 am, Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Leona Ansley Hughes and siblings, Earnestine Hinton, Howard “Bud” Hughes, Helen Jackson, Mary Bird, Oma Thornhill-Smith, Shirley “Chuck” Hughes, Ann Hinds, Betty Lou Richardson and Sue Caldwell. Left to cherish his memory are his children Dick Hughes, Allen (Mary) Hughes, Lee Lee (Dan) Rainer, Jeanne Hughes, Lorie Presley, and Carlton (Laura) Hughes. Grandchildren Hollye (Joe) Leach, Harlan Hughes, Cole (Angelle) Hughes, Cain Hughes, Jason Hughes, April (Danny) Deason, Sean (Desiree) Rainer, Nicole (Jeremy) Mayhew, Lacey (Chad) Stone, Ashley (E.J.) Howard, Ansley (Chris) Rimmer, Rachel (John) Adams and Meaghan Hughes. Twenty-one great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Bob was a hardworking husband, father, grandfather, friend, and strong Christian mentor, always witnessing about the love of Jesus Christ. Shortly after graduating high school he voluntarily entered the Army working as a Surgical Technician serving his country for 3 years during WWII. While growing his loving family, his vocations included, air-conditioning, plumbing and carpentry, eventually starting his own business, Hughes Electric Company, in Waskom, Texas. He then went on to work and retire from Libbey Glass in Shreveport as an electrician. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and enjoyed working in his yard and shop. His passions in life were reading the Bible, singing in the choir, being a lifetime deacon at Kelley Memorial Baptist Church and Westlake Baptist Church. He was loved and known as a Christian and man of God.
Honoring Bob as pallbearers are Dick Hughes, Allen Hughes, Carlton Hughes, Dan Rainer, Charles Harper and James Clayton.
