She accepted Christ at an early age and lived a life rooted in faith, family, and love.
She attended Central High School in Shreveport, Louisiana, where she proudly played on the girls’ basketball team. After graduation, she married Morgan Ellis, and five children were born of that union. Following his passing, she later gave birth to two additional children.
Sister Ellis was employed at Libbey Glass in Shreveport, Louisiana, where she worked diligently until her retirement. She was a faithful member of Morning Star Baptist, under the leadership of Rev. Murphy Hunt, until her health prevented her from attending regularly.
Loved by many, Sister Ellis will forever be remembered as a hard working, gentle woman who deeply loved her family. Her smile could brighten the darkest day. She enjoyed listening to music and dancing, and birthdays were her favorite, especially when shared with family and friends. A woman of style and grace, she was rarely seen without her jewelry and a beautifully styled hairdo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Perry and Mary H. Perry; three children, Mary Colbert, Curtis R. Ellis, and Mellon Matthew; and seven siblings: Leola Davis, Philip Perry, Blanche Woodard, Maude Wilson, Thera Wilson, Ola Perry, and Annise Brooks.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory: Elizabeth, Barnes (Billy), Luther R. Ellis (Barbara), Cathy Skinner (Elton), Lee A. Perry (Sarah); 18 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
