He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Gillum, father in law, David Daniel, mother in law, Verna Daniel, brother in law David W. Daniel and sister in law Shelly Daniel.
He is survived by his mother, Novie Gillum, his wife, Cindy Gillum, his children Stephen Gillum Jr. and wife Jennifer, Kristin Springer and husband Josh, Matthew Gillum, his sister, Terry McDuffie, brother in law Bryan Daniel and wife Kay, his six grandkids, Jaci, Charleigh, Jorden, David, Georgia, and Ivy Rose, countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He graduated from Southwood High School where he met Cindy, the love of his life, forever best friend, and wife of 42 years. He was a dedicated employee at Libbey Glass for over 30 years. Steve was a successful junior golfer and enjoyed playing on the golf teams at SHS and Centenary College. Golf continued to be one of his favorite hobbies as well as fishing and hunting. He loved all things sports related, music, singing, cooking, and the outdoors. He was a servant leader that always had an open door for everyone. Steve left a lasting impact on countless lives during his many years serving the youth and college & career at Summer Grove Baptist Church. Whether it was teaching Sunday school, hosting DNOW, serving at Jacob’s Well, cooking on Wednesday nights, or singing with the praise team, Steve enjoyed serving the Lord.
Steve was one of the most selfless, hardworking, and kind men that existed. He carried countless titles from husband, brother, son, and uncle to Dad, Paw, Mac G, coach and friend. Whether it was his corny dad jokes, his words of wisdom, or the abundance of patience he had while teaching us things, there are endless ways he would show us that he loves us. He loved his family without reservation.
Services honoring Steve’s life will be held at 2pm on Wednesday, November 24th at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home in Shreveport with graveside immediately following. Visitation will begin at 12:30 prior to the life celebration service.
