

ASHLEY, Bonnie Lee age 58, of Carroll’s Corner, Halifax County, NS went to be with Jesus on September 9, 2011 at home surrounded by her family. Born in London, Ontario on May 24, 1953 she was a daughter of Fred and Sheila Newman of Carroll’s Corner. She grew up in a musical family and started playing with Fred Isenor and The Nova Scotia Playboys at a young age. She also sang and recorded an album with her sister Jo-Ann and they had the opportunity to sing on stage at the Grand Ole Opry. In later years she sang with the Nova Scotia Ramblers who in 2004 were inducted into the NS Country Music Hall of Fame. She most enjoyed recording her Gospel album and singing for her Lord. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother whose presence will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, John Ashley and her daughters, Lorrie (Nathan) den Hollander and Susan (Brad) Murray, all of Dartmouth; her one grandchild, Rylee Grace den Hollander was a special joy to Bonnie; sisters Jo-Ann (Floyd) Spicer of Hammonds Plains, Glenda (Derek) Roberts of Norton, NB and brothers Curtis Newman and James (Danita) Newman, all of Carroll’s Corner and Paul (Janice) Newman of Gays River. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held 7-9pm today, Monday September 12, 2011 at the Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie, from where a celebration of Bonnie’s life will be held 2pm Tuesday, Pastor Gary Hooper officiating. Following a reception in the funeral home, a committal service will be held in Gays River Cemetery.
