 It was sad to hear of Gib's passing. I will always remember seeing Gib driving to and from with his cattle truck looking very confident and serious as he was with his farm work.He will be missed by many. He was our next door neighbour all our childhood years. Rest in Peace. Shirley, Junior and family

Gib was a great man,  not only to us but everyone he knew. We remember our first phone call to go to work. Our mom said do you think you want to go he looks a little cranky. Everyone knows that stern look Gib had but we didnt care we were going anyway. That next morning Gib pulled in our driveway around 8:00. Our first work day had begun. We found Gib to be funny and full of stories. He was great and we couldnt wait to go back the next day. Over the summer we spent pretty much every day working with Gib and we enjoyed every bit of it even though he worked our butts off.We even joined Gib and Bessie at the dinner table.they made their home our home away from home. With Bessies great cooking and feeding us well and with Gib's laughter who  could have asked for more. We are honoured to have known and worked for him. we have learned alot from him and have alot of cherished memories that will never be forgotten. We will miss you Gib! Our thoughts are with the  Weatherhead family.

I am so deeply sorry for your loss, Gib was a wonderful man, and I have nothing but the fondest memories of him. The best memory that comes to mind is a time when it got around that I was in a little hot water with my mother and Norman, and Gib upon hearing of it came over and told Norman to go easy on me and remember all the trouble he'd gotten into in his younger days. Gib will be deeply missed.

I was shocked to hear the news from Bessie about the sudden, tragic death of Gib.  I did not know him well personally but certainly knew him from one visit and the many stories I heard thru the years.  My son, Jordy spent some time one summer with Gib, Bessie and Ruth.  Oh the stories that were told from that experience still bring tears from laughter.  Since the death of Ruth when I would call to talk with Bessie  occasionally Gib would answer the phone.  It was always a brief conversation but I remember him replying often with "yup" to most questions..such a distinctive accent that I loved to hear.  I know this time is one in which it must just seem to be a horrible nightmare but I am hoping the family being together and sharing stories of your family life will bring some comfort to all of you as you return to life that is minus a most important person.  Please know my thoughts are with all of you.

Keven and i were shocked to hear the news last wednsday night.This is big blow to the Rawdon area.Gib gave keven his first job in Nova Scotia.Gib was a nice old genteman .Gib had a great since of humour and was very witty and dedicated.Gib showed us all the proper way to live and conduct our lives.He will be saddly missed by all.

Gilbert was and always will be a man of the land. You have a bigger void in your hearts now - may it be filled with wonderful memories. I am unable to be with you today, but my thoughts will be with all of you, as they have been since this happened.

Shannon remembers the time Gib's tooth fell out and he coughed it out into his hand and he decided to share it with Shannon...he give it to him but Shannon didn't hold on to it very long.....and while working on the farm with Gib they would go in  for lunch to the house...Ruth always had dinner ready and one day Shannon looked at Gib and his comment was "Don't ask just eat it"

I wish to express to the Weatherhead family my deepest feelings of sympathy in their sudden loss of Gib. I taught with Ruth for the nine years I taught at Hants West: she was  a woman I admired for her tenacity in furthering her own education as well as that of the students she taught.

Thoughts and prayers to the family of the late Gibert. Gib passed away doing what he loved to do, instead of being sick and unable to work.

I was saddened to learn of Gib's sudden death, but immediately thought how fitting it was that he died working the land he loved. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Mrs. (Ruth) Weatherhead was my homeroom teacher in Grade 8 and taught me English grammar. Along the way we heard more than a few funny stories about Gib from a proud Mom.

  I wanted to pass on these photos that I took of Gilbert and some of his relatives in recent years.

  I also wanted to write a few words about Gib.  My mother is Joyce Whittier Chaplin so I've been visiting the Whittier farm almost every year for my entire 50 years.  Gib was always the quiet farmer next door who loved the land and hard work and stayed on their farm his entire life (almost 80 years). My understanding is that he spent almost all of his time on the farm and in the woods. On the one hand I must admit I found this a little odd, but at the same time I found it very comforting that someone lived that life and enjoyed it. Indeed, I believe that I would have very much enjoyed spending a month or two each year working with him. It seemed like a very peaceful and purposeful existence, and he did take great care of our land and his.  I had the pleasure of working for him one summer as a child and of also had many enjoyable conversations with him over the years about logging, farming, and the state of the world. He was always a calm and thoughtful man and in later years quite humorous. I very much wish he could have stayed with us longer as I suspect we would have been able to get to know him better in his "retirement" years.
   The Weatherheads have been our good neighbors for many generations, well over 100 years (and perhaps more than 150). I also hope that we can remain as neighbors and good friends for many more generations.
