

STREATCH, James “Jim” Morris - 88, Elderbank, Born in Meaghers Grant, September 2, 1922 and passed away peacefully at home in Elderbank, February 9, 2011 surrounded by his family. Jim lived his entire life in the Musquodoboit Valley as a woodsman, stevedore and farmer. Jim was a member of the Longshoreman’s Union for over thirty years and worked as a stevedore in Halifax for Cunard Shiplines. He was a leader in business and community affairs and was proud to be a lifelong member and supporter of the Conservative Party. Jim was a pioneer in the establishment of Farmers Dairy and served on the Board of Directors for several terms. You could always count on Jim Streatch to lend a helping hand to someone down on their luck. Jim’s true passions in life were his family and farm. Jim’s generosity was never more evident than when in his early twenties he accepted responsibility for not only his own children, but also five of Margaret’s youngest siblings whom they raised as their own. Jim was the son of the late Percy and Jessie Streatch. He is survived by his wife of sixty-nine years, Margaret (Stoddard), five children; Ken (Donna), Middle Musquodoboit; Sharon (Paul) Howard (Kindervater), Head Jeddore; Donna Henderson, Calgary; Marion (Fred) Somerville, Bear Island, NB; Alan (Cathy), Elderbank; 19 grandchildren; Steve (Marilyn) Streatch, Elderbank; Janette Miller, Chaswood; Judy Streatch (Gerald Keddy), New Ross; Karen (Wayne) Theriault, Grand Lake; Andy (Leanne) Streatch, Elderbank; two step-grandchildren Mike (Trish) Blackburn, Sharon (Curtis) Isenor, both of Middle Musquodoboit; Rhonda (Michael) Shaw, Regina / Winnipeg; Derek (Staci) Kindervater, Whitehorse; Colleen Kindervater, Amherst; Nadine (Brian) Foote, Pittsburg; Deanna Henderson, Calgary; Dr. Annette Henderson (Dr. Iannick) Monfils, New Zealand; Christina (Geoffrey) Alders, Noonan; Kimberly (Jon) Wall, Oromocto; Christopher Somerville, Calgary; Alisha Somerville, Ottawa; Ryan Streatch, Todd Streatch, Natasha Streatch, all of Bedford; Shaylyn Streatch, Toronto; 40 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; sister Kyra (Charlie) McMullin and many nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his sister Wanda, brother Bruce, daughter in law Barb Streatch, great granddaughter Melissa Streatch, grandsons in-law Brent Taylor and Craig Miller. Visitation will be 2 – 4 PM Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. The funeral will take place 2 PM Sunday, February 13, 2011 at St. Andrew’s United Church, Elderbank, Rev. Joan Griffin officiating. Interment in the church cemetery following the service.
