

GILL, Jean – Selma, Hants County, passed away peacefully at Williams Country Home on May 28, 2011. Born in Brechin, Scotland, on February 18, 1924, she was the youngest daughter of the late James and Mary Jane Auchterlonie. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She immigrated to Canada as a war bride arriving in Halifax on the Queen Mary in August 1946. She was a lifelong resident of Selma and a stay-at-home mother. She was an active member of the Selma United Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and member of the church choir for many years. She enjoyed playing cards, cooking, knitting, quilting and baking for church events. She is survived by her daughters Mabel (Robert) Stevens, Musquodoboit Harbour; Judy (Laurie) Tomlinson, Brookfield; sons Alfred (Marion) Gill, Halifax; Allen (Susan) Gill, Urbania; Michael Gill, Selma; nine grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Alfred, daughter Jane, son-in-law Lyman Crowe. Grandson Kimball Crowe. Viewing will be from 1 p.m. until time of service at 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 1, in Maitland United Church with Rev Larry Harrison officiating. Reception will follow in the Maitland United Church Hall. Interment will be in Selma United Church Cemetery.
