SULLIVAN (SCOTT), Mary Isobel - 86 Enfield, It is with extreme sadness that our family announces the loss of a wonderful mother and grandmother on January 3, 2012. She was very proud of her children and their families. Her love for us was unconditional. Mom served in the army for five years and was stationed at A-23 in Eastern Passage during the war. In 1949 she married the love of her life – Joseph Sullivan. Together they raised eight children; Joe Jr (Elizabeth), Alberta; Tim (Debbie), Enfield; Mary Esther Doucet (John), Enfield; Dan (Patricia), Enfield; Pat (Bonnie), Alberta; Cecilia Lidgett (Farrel), Alberta; Eileen Wilson (David), Belnan; Shawn Manitoba. She is also remembered by her caregiver and companion Parichat Lasingwong who we consider a part of the family. Left with wonderful memories are her grandchildren, Erin Sullivan, Charles and Laura Sullivan, Andrew and Chris Doucet, Jesse and Kyle Sullivan, Ryan and Marc Doucette, Colin and Jessica Lidgett, Jason and Keith Wilson. Mom loved to meet people. She and her husband Joe owned and operated Sully’s Campsite on their property on Grand Lake for many years and then she worked for Cara in the PJ’s coffee shop at the Halifax Airport for 17 years. She was a generous person who always helped others less fortunate than herself. She was a member of St. Bernard’s Parish and one of the founding members of the Caring and Sharing Program in her area. She would often provide food from her own home to those in need. The Royal Canadian Legion, Enfield Branch 133 was a huge part of her life where she was a life member. She was presented with the Palm Leaf Award which is the highest award bestowed upon a person for their contributions for work done with the Legion. She was proud of her participation in the Poppy Campaign and visited many schools each year in the area to speak to students about the importance of Remembrance Day. Mom was extremely active in her community and could be depended upon to help anyone in need. For her continuous volunteer efforts, she received many awards and certificates of appreciation including two Volunteer of the Year Awards from the Municipality of East Hants. She enjoyed riding on the Legion Floats in the July 1 and Christmas Parades each year. Ensuring she always did good deeds for others, she would pick strawberries and deliver them to seniors in the area who could not pick for themselves. She loved her property on Grand Lake and welcomed many friends there over the years. She enjoyed the annual visits from the Camphill Veterans. She received many letters and Certificates of Appreciation from non profit organizations who appreciated the use of her lakeside property for their various events. Many people will remember taking swimming lessons at Sullivan’s Beach. Mom loved to play cards and enjoyed attending many card parties in the area. She often spoke of the memories she had from her extensive travels throughout Canada and the USA. She was a lady of great strength and faith. She often said that prayers gave her the strength to get through the challenges that life brings. Mary was predeceased by her parents James and Edith Mae Scott; her husband Joe; brothers Frank, Louis, Burt, Donnie and granddaughter Sarah Doucet. Visitation will be held at St Bernard’s Parish in Enfield on Thursday, January 5 from 6:00 – 9:00pm with a Legion Service at 6:30pm. Funeral will be held at St Bernard’s Parish in Enfield on Friday, January 6 at 11:00am with a private family burial in the Saint Bernard’s Church Cemetery. Reception to be held at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall following the funeral. Special thanks to Dr Ian MacNeil for the many years of friendship and care. Family flowers only.
