

Pansy passed away at True Davidson Acres, Toronto, Ontario on November 28, 2012. Daughter of Newton Wesley Zwicker and Cora Anna (Turple) Zwicker, she was born in Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia on January 21, 1919. She attended Shubenacadie Elementary and High School, and in later years, was a Trustee for the same school area. She attended Maritime Business College in Halifax and later received a diploma in Public Administration from Dalhousie University after having been a founding member of the committee that set up the course with the Institute of Public Affairs of Dalhousie University. From 1943 to 1974, Pansy worked for the Municipality of East Hants, and retired as Municipal Clerk Treasurer. She then moved to Botswana, Africa with CUSO to assist with establishing municipal and financial governance and then served as Training Officer for the Council of Employees of Botswana. In 1981, she retired again and moved to Portugal until 1987 when she returned to Canada, making her home in Toronto. Pansy was the first woman President and later an honourary life member of the Municipal Finance Officers Association of Nova Scotia and an honourary life member of the Nova Scotia Association of Municipal Administrators. She was a very active member of the United Church of Canada in both Nova Scotia and Ontario, held various church offices and was a life member of the UCW. Pansy was a life time member of the Crescent Rebekah Lodge in Shubenacadie. She held a life membership with the East Hants Municipal Swimming Pool and helped spearhead the funding and construction of the pool. She also greatly enjoyed golfing with her Florida and River Oaks (Nova Scotia) friends. Pansy was a Master Bridge player and enjoyed games with her many friends in Toronto, in Nova Scotia at her beloved Martinique Beach cottage and with others around the world. She is very lovingly remembered by her brother, Marlin (Ruth) Zwicker, her sons Albert (Cathy), Darrell (late Vivian), daughter Coreen (Frances Aspinall), grandchildren Debi Barkhouse (Leslie), Dwayne Flemming, Francine Flemming, Bert (Valerie) Flemming, Sandra Flemming, Jennifer (Todd) Hubley and her very special ten great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren. Pansy was predeceased by her former husband, George Flemming, and her dear sister, Pearl Connick. The family would also like to thank Pansy’s very kind and supportive caregiver, Lynn Obie, and the dedicated staff at True Davidson Acres. Pansy was generous, patient, kind, loving, adventurous, diplomatic, intelligent and a role model in her family, work, volunteer and social lives. The visitation will be Monday, December 17th from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. with a Rebekah Lodge service at 7pm at Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Main Street, Shubenacadie, NS B0N 2H0 (902) 758-3259. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 18th at 2 p.m. at Shubenacadie United Church, M. Dale Crawford officiating DLM. A memorial service is also being held in Toronto, Ontario.
