

BAKER, Russell Clarence, Wellington, passed away September 26, 2012, in Camp Hill Veteran’s Building of the QEII, Halifax. Born in East Jeddore, on September 29, 1925, he was a son of the late Austin and Stella (Miller) Baker. He served overseas in the Second World War with the Queen’s Own Rifles until being wounded in Emmerich, Germany. He was a member of the Somme Branch 31 of the Royal Canadian Legion, in Dartmouth for 67 years. He worked as a machinist at Fairey Aviation, Dartmouth until its closure and at I.M.P., at the Halifax Airport, until his retirement. Russell was an avid vegetable gardener all his life, he enjoyed growing them from seeds. He kept physically fit all his life. He enjoyed Sunday night suppers with family. Russell is survived by sons Kenneth (Linda), Robert (Sandy), Michael (Shelly), and Brian all of Wellington; sister Dorothy Stillman, Halifax; grandsons Matthew, Jeffrey, Alex, granddaughters , Rebecca- Lynn and Karlee. He was predeceased by his wife, Beulah (MacLeod), brothers Earl, Emerson, Ross, Lester, Owen, Roy, Raleigh and sister Rita. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. By request there will be no visitation or funeral. All are invited to a graveside committal service taking place 2pm Tuesday October 2, 2012 at Mountain View Cemetery, Wittenburg, Dale Crawford D.L.M. officiating. For all who cared for Dad including the doctors and nurses at the 5th floor Garrison East, a thank you from the family.
