
Billy Gene Johnson, 85, of Sikeston, died Monday, September 24, 2012 at the Miner Nursing Center. He was born February 6, 1927, in Sikeston, to the late Leslie Robert and Lorene Monroe Johnson. He was a 1945 graduate of Blodgett High School, and served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953. A farmer and member of the Miner Baptist Church, he also was a member of the Masonic Lodge as a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the SEMO Shriner’s Mounted Patrol of Sikeston for many years. On November 24, 1950, in Sikeston, he married Carolyn Ruth Wilkinson, who preceded him in death on August 24, 1986.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Robert Johnson, who died May 9, 1999, and one brother, Jimmy Johnson.
Survivors include: two daughters and sons-in-law, Amy and Steve Hodges of East Prairie and Patricia and Mike Hogan of East Prairie; and two sisters, Frances Shelby of Karnack, IL, and Sondra Chapman of Sikeston.
Also surviving are five grandchildren, James Hodges of New Madrid, Andrew Hodges of Kalamazoo, MI, Adam Hodges of Branson, MO, Travis Hogan of Paris, TN, and Spencer Hogan of Cape Girardeau; two great grandchildren, Patrick Hodges and Peyton Hodges, both of New Madrid, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 11:00am-12:45pm on Monday, October 1, at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel, where funeral services will follow at 1:00pm, with the Rev. Mary McCord officiating.
Committal services will immediately follow at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston. Pallbearers will be his grandsons and sons-in-law. Honorary pallbearers will be his great grandsons.
