

Don was born in Marston, Missouri, on January 22, 1941, to the late R. L. Newton and Opal Fausett Newton. He graduated from Sikeston High School in 1959 and attended Murray State University.
On April 8, 1962, he married Bonnie Carolyn Voelker, who survives. Together they shared a long and devoted marriage.
Throughout his life, Don worked as an insurance broker and was also the owner of Kirby’s Sandwich Shop in Sikeston.
Don was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sikeston. He was committed to his community, serving on the executive board of the Jaycees in various positions, including as president in 1971. He also enjoyed supporting local youth as a team sponsor for the Sikeston Youth Soccer League.
Don was a loving husband and father, a friend to many, and an avid golfer. He was known for his great sense of humor, which endeared him to everyone who knew him.
In addition to his wife, Don is survived by three children: Diana Testa (John) of Sikeston; Lori Templeton (Robert) of Sikeston; and David Newton of Arlington, Virginia. He is also survived by one grandson, Jacob Templeton of Jackson, Missouri, and three granddaughters: Audrey Cantrell (John) of Sikeston; Katherine Newton of Boston, Massachusetts; and Halbrook Newton of Arlington, Virginia.
In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his sister, Brenda Newton, and his brother, Ron Newton.
A memorial service is planned for Thursday, March 26, 2026, at the First Baptist Church of Sikeston, 1101 North Main Street. Visitation will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with the service beginning at noon.
In 2009, Don received an organ donation, which gave him nearly 17 additional years to spend with his family. His grandchildren were blessed with the opportunity to know their grandfather.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Barnes-Jewish Hospital Foundation.
Don will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
