Sarah Lucinda Pate, age 94, of Columbia, Mo., formerly of East Prairie, died October 27, 2013, at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia. She was born October 11, 1919, in Dorena, Mo., to the late Guy Lloyd and Faye Jenkins Hall, and was a member of the Community United Methodist Church of Columbia. On June 19, 1938, in Cairo, Ill., she married Carl Pate, who preceded her in death on July 27, 1967.
Mrs. Pate lived a very fulfilling life. Much of her spare time was spent nursing a garden. She was known for her green thumb. She had some of the most beautiful roses. One of her favorite past times was cooking. She spent hours in the kitchen, whipping up cakes, pies and casseroles. Her family could taste her love in the birthday cakes she baked. The most important things in her life were God, family, and friends. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Eagle Lake, Tex., and later joined Community United Methodist Church in Columbia. She served on many committees and was a member of the Women’s Circle. The way she lived her life was a true witness for God. Her family and friends could always depend on her to have a smile on her face and a kind word. Although she had her own grandchildren, many people called her “granny”. Whether playing dominoes, watching the Cardinals, or simply talking, she loved spending time with friends and family. Some close friends, Martha Shelton, Tom and Tiffany Holman, Brian and Mitzi Clayton, and Terrell and Ruanne Stamps were a special part of her life throughout these past few years. She will be dearly missed.
