

Walter Calvin Owen, 88, a resident of Sikeston, died at 5:45 p.m. on April 30, 2014, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau, following an extended illness. Born May 4, 1925, in Hardin County, Tenn., son of the late William Russell and Elita Mae Duke Owen, he had been an appraiser and later chief appraiser for the Missouri State Highway and Transportation Department prior to retirement. He was a member of Point Pleasant Lodge #176 AF&AM, the First United Methodist Church of Sikeston, where he was an usher and Sunday school teacher, and served in several positions including chairman of the Church board. He was a “plank owner” and member of the United States Navy Memorial Foundation in Washington, D.C. His military career consisted of serving with the U.S. Navy in Pacific Campaigns during World War II. He later joined the National Guard and held various positions, including Company Commander of Company “C”, 140th Infantry, Portageville, Mo., Company “B”, 140th Infantry Mechanized, Sikeston, Mo., and was also staff officer with the Second Battalion Headquarters in Poplar Bluff, Mo. He retired in 1985 at the rank of Captain.
On August 18, 1978, in Sikeston, he married Wilma Fausett, who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Kimberly Barclay of Sterling, Va., and Jennifer Owen of Dallas, Tex.; two stepsons, David Fausett of Bartlett, Tenn. and Mark Fausett of Jackson, Mo.; one brother, Willie Joe Owen of Portageville, Mo.; four sisters, Vivian Petty of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Norene Price of Kennett, Mo., Willita Owen of Memphis, Tenn., and Leola Cotton of Greenville, Tenn. Also surviving are three granddaughters, Charly and Lauren Fausett and Mackenzie Barclay; one grandson, Benjamin Wasserman; and two daughters-in-law, Regina Fausett and Kathy Fausett.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Delbert Owen.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 5, at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston, with the Rev. Geoff Posegate, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Full military honors will be accorded him by the Missouri Military Honor Guard Unit.
