loved her Alisa’s formal education began in Washington, DC where she attended both Raymond
Elementary School and Benjamin Banneker Junior High School In 1969 her family relocated to Silver
Spring, Maryland, where Alisa attended White Oak Junior High and Springbrook High Schools She also
developed a great love for art and became an extremely talented artist She dabbled in everything from
sketching to creating amazing ethnic face masks, for which she won awards during her high school years
Following high school, she attended Salisbury State University Alisa worked for both the DC and Federal
Governments, her career spanning 38 years She retired from her post at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation on October 30 2019.
Alisa began attending First Baptist Church Randolph as a young adult under the leadership of Reverend
Frank D Tucker There, she not only enjoyed serving as a Leader of the Girl Scouts (Renee loved the
children!), but also ushered for many years Faithful to her post as an Usher, she rarely missed a Sunday
assignment Because of her love for Christ, Alisa constantly sought out a deeper understanding of His word, attending Bible Study and Sunday School But her greatest joy was hearing the Choirs sing She was an “FBC Church Choir Groupie” and followed the Choir to nearly every engagement You could find her in a seat at the John F Kennedy Center whenever the Choir performed In fact, her love for the Choir was so great that she actually performed on stage at the Kennedy Center along with the FBC Choir when one of her favorite singers, Albertina Walker was the featured artist Running a very close second for her were the Canton Spirituals and the FBC Male Chorus!
Alisa was an avid Redskins fan, so much so, that at her retirement party, she was awarded a framed Redskin jersey, displaying the number 38 (representing her years of service) Other interests for Alisa included sewing, face painting for the children at family gatherings, traveling and listening to oldies music (the Temptations, Delfonics James Brown, Stylistics and Smokie Robinson) just to name a few She had a huge collection of LP’s and 45 ’s which she and her siblings enjoyed throughout their younger years Alisa could always be spotted sporting a “ haircut with beautiful waves, dressed in her favorite color of green What Alisa loved most was her family, especially her nieces and nephews She was so very proud of each of them and attended every celebration, be it a graduation or cookout held in their honor
On November 1 2021 God called Alisa to be with Him in Glory Alisa quietly and peacefully left this world,
leaving behind to cherish her memory her loving mother Catherine Blount four sisters Beverly Brown
( Deborah Jones, Aneyeus Dinkins, Robin Tearney ( two brothers Roger Powell, Jr ( Tony Powell Gwendalyn her cherished nieces and nephews Ashley Goines (Brittani Powell, Kassandra Johnson ( James Gittens, Olivia Gittens, LaWanda King, Keenan Powell, Roger Powell III, Ryan Powell, Shauna Powell, Tony Powell, Jr Alix Tearney adorable great niece and nephews Gideon Goines, Aminah Johnson, Eli Johnson, and a host of cousins and friends To God be the Glory for all the wonderful years He so graciously shared His beloved Alisa with all of us!
