It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved Athena Karin Greco, who left this world far too soon on August 23, 2024, at the age of 16. Athena was born on August 9, 2008, and in her short time on earth, she touched countless lives with her creativity, kindness, and love. Athena was the cherished daughter of Angela M. Huro and Brian J. Greco, and a devoted sister to her brother, Angel D. Lopez, whom she adored and cared for deeply. She also leaves behind her stepfather, Fernando V. Lopez, and her maternal family, including her grandmother, Angela M. Sadler, grandfather Randy Sadler, Aunt, Isabella R. Sadler and Uncles, Jesse D. Huro and Tiago Sadler. Her paternal family, Grandmother, Pat Kelly, Grandfather, Alfonso Greco, Uncle and Aunt, Alfonso and Kelly Greco.
Athena’s life was filled with the warmth and support of her aunts, uncles, and cousins from the Lopez and Camacho families, and her many close friends who meant the world to her, including family friends Jescie, Vince and JV Tonio, Alma, Alexander, Nicolas, and Santiago Venegas. She also had a strong connection to her church family, attending Sunday school classes and activities at Solid Rock Church in her younger years.
Athena attended Sherwood High School, where she shared countless memories with her closest friends—Sydney, Emma, Cecile, Kelsi, Safia, Shannon, and Gabe. She was an active member of her school community and had just begun her journey with indoor track, following in the footsteps of her mom and dad, something they were all excited to share together. Creative, artistic, and curious, Athena loved expressing herself through art, writing, and exploring new things. She had a passion for breakdancing, ballet, and acting productions in her younger years. Athena also had a talent for music, playing the viola, and more recently, she found joy in makeup design and application. Her imagination and love for life shone brightly in everything she did, whether she was spending time with friends, laughing together, or cleaning their rooms side by side. Athena had a caring heart, always empathetic and compassionate to those around her. She was a loving sister to Angel, taking his needs into consideration and nurturing him as they grew up together.
Though Athena’s time with us was short, the positive impact she had will continue to in our hearts.
A celebration of life for Athena will be held Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Hines-Rinaldi Funeral Home, 11800 New Hampshire Avenue, Silver Spring, Maryland 20904.
