Colleen was the heart of her home and family. Born in Concord, Virginia, she was one of thirteen children born to Eva Mae Jones and Joseph Andrew Clark. In the early 1960s, she moved to the District of Columbia, where she lovingly balanced her role as a cook for DC Public Schools while raising four adoring children: David, Cherita, Lindsay, and Lashawn. She was married to Charles T. Guion for over 45 years, who preceded her in death.
As a loving wife, devoted mother, and caring grandmother to Lindsey Monet, Colleen was a model of virtue for everyone she knew, demonstrating strength, friendliness, compassion, respect, joyfulness, thankfulness, and generosity.
She loved baking desserts and cooking her Southern favorites, such as pound cakes, sweet potato pie, homemade biscuits, macaroni and cheese, mouthwatering steak, fried chicken, and smothered pork chops. Her meals were crafted with care and offered as an act of love to nourish both body and soul.
She also loved planting fresh mint, tomatoes, squash, and flowers in her backyard garden! Colleen's home was a warm haven, reflecting her Southern roots and hospitality. Her personal touches were evident throughout, from the meticulously manicured lawn to the comfortable and inviting rooms that made everyone feel at home.
She found joy in everyday moments, whether walking through the neighborhood or shopping for the perfect outfit for church and special occasions. She was an unwavering presence at Harvey Memorial Baptist Church and Masters Touch Praise Ministries, where she faithfully served as an usher for over 40 years, greeting everyone with a smile. She shared her zest for life with everyone she met. Her life's motto was a reflection of her faith: "God can do anything BUT fail!"
A woman of boundless generosity, Colleen expressed her love in countless ways—through hugs, prayers, gifts, and thoughtful cards signed with "Smile…God loves you and so do I." Her life was a testament to God's love, grace, and the power of giving. She was known for her readiness to support others and embodying kindness in every interaction.
Colleen’s legacy lives on in her four children, grandchild, three great-grandchildren, her beloved sisters, a large extended family, and dear friends who were touched by her kind spirit and strength.
