Helen B. Morris peacefully passed away on May 4, 2020, in Sandy Spring, Maryland.
Helen was the youngest daughter of Elizabeth and Soloman Benjamin. Born Hannah on September 3, 1920, later to become Helen, she grew up in England with her 5 brothers and sisters. While sitting on a bench at Windsor Castle, she met an American soldier stationed in London during WWII. After the war, she would leave her home in England to make a new home in the US with her soldier, Glen Morris, who predeceased her in 1993. Settling in Massachusetts and later in Maryland, she raised three children, Valerie Morris, Sheri Weisgerber, and Glen Morris.
She was always there for her four grandchildren, Alex, Betsy, Anya and Ben. She earned the title of GG (great grandmother) fourteen years ago when Aynslie was born, then again four more times when Finley, Benji, Remi, and Parker came along.
She was an original member of the Trans-Atlantic Brides and Parents Association (TBPA) when it was established in 1946 and remained a member until it disbanded in 2018. As a War Bride, she had the opportunity to meet Queen Elizabeth at the World War II Memorial during her visit in 2007.
She was a successful interior decorator and an extremely talented painter. She was kind, brilliant, brave, loving, stubborn, feisty, adventurous, and independent. The world was fortunate to have this amazing woman for nearly 100 years.
In addition to her husband Glen and her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers and sisters: Rene, Tilly, Sadie, Dave, and Arthur. She is survived by many nieces and nephews in England, too many to name.
A service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a date to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Alzheimer’s Association, alz.org, in her memory.
