Mrs. Hristina H. Athanasakis

Hristina Athanasakis, 90

July 31,1930- February 7, 2021

Hristina was born in Gonies, Maleviziou on the beautiful island of Crete. She was a young child at the start of World War II and her family struggled during the war. Although her education was cut short, she loved reading and always encouraged education.

She lived a simple life with her main focus on raising her family with tender love and care, respect, and kindness. She poured her love and her energy into raising her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

When asked if she would change any part of her life, Hristina responded, “I did not choose my life’s path, life took me on its path and I faced it with strength, love, and positivity. If I had to do it all over again, I would not change a thing”. She will always be in our memories and in our hearts. She will be greatly missed.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions and for the safety of the community, the funeral service will be with immediate family. Family that would like to attend the church service should contact Stephanie Kaldis at 630-201-5348. We have limited space at the church service.

Funeral service is scheduled for 12pm on Friday, 2/19/2021, at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 7701 Bradley Blvd, Bethesda, MD 20817.

Interment will follow at 2pm at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20906
