Ian Mark Anthony Kameka, affectionately known as Mark, aged 58 left this earthly life on May 2, 2025, in Silver Spring, Maryland. He was born on May 22, 1966, to the late Alfred George Kameka and Donette M Gardner in Kingston, Jamaica. He was preceded in death by his father Alfred George Kameka, paternal grandparents and his three uncles. Left to cherish his memories are his wife of thirteen years Doreen Kameka, his mother Donette Gardner (Lewis), his kids Ian Anthony Mark Kameka, Jodie-Ann Kameka, grandchildren’s, several sisters, brothers, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews: along with his church family, friends and neighbors.
His life was a true testament to the meaning of resilience—a man who, time and time again, faced trials with unwavering strength, quiet endurance, and unshakable faith. His formative years were spent in the lush countryside of St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, under the care of his paternal grandparents, where he received his early education and built the foundation of his deeply rooted values. Mark’s childhood and adolescent years were divided between the warmth of his maternal family in Kingston and the discipline of his paternal roots in St. Elizabeth—a blend of city and country life that shaped the man he would become.
In 1994, Mark migrated to the United States, joining his mother and relatives in Brooklyn, New York. With little more than hope and determination, he embraced his new life and eventually moved to Tampa, Florida in the early 2000s. Tampa became a turning point in Mark’s journey. It was there, amidst both challenges and new beginnings, that he carved out an independent life, built on hard work, humility, and quiet perseverance. It was also in Tampa, where he was introduced by a mutual friend to the love of his life, Doreen, and a year later they were married on July 16, 2011.
Those who knew Mark knew him as a quiet soul with a lion’s heart. He never sought attention, but his presence spoke volumes. He was the kind of man who endured hardship without complaint, who loved deeply, and who never allowed his circumstances to define him. He embodied resilience—not as a singular act but as a lifelong way of being. Despite the many obstacles he encountered, including the tragic accident in Tampa that would ultimately change the course of his life, he never stopped fighting. Even when his injuries required skilled nursing care, Doreen stood by his side, relocating him to their hometown to ensure he received the care and love he so deeply deserved.
Mark’s life reminds us that strength is not always loud; sometimes, it is found in quiet endurance, in starting over, in loving through pain, and in showing up day by day with courage. Though he has left this earthly life, his story of resilience, love, and quiet strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Rest in eternal peace, Ian Mark Anthony Kameka. Your journey was not easy, but you walked it with grace.
You will be forever missed and always remembered.
